Why Have a National Awards Acknowledging Indigenous Hip Hop & RnB?

Why you say???

Hip Hop & RnB has been a vehicle for Indigenous people to express themselves, just like other black cultures across the world.

In a sense, Indigenous Australian Hip Hop & RnB can be understood as a musical conversation between Indigenous Australian people, the wider Australian nation and the world. Hip hop & RnB is a powerful vehicle for the expression of identity and resistance in contemporary Aboriginal popular music.

Hip Hop & RnB to many Indigneous Artists has political significance. It creates an avenue, which enables Aboriginal Australians to be seen and most importantly heard in this modern society and world, to be politically present, in a way which has in the past been denied to us by the conditions imposed by the colonisation of our people.

Hip Hop & RnB functions as a vehicle for the performance of Aboriginal culture. Aboriginal culture is orally and visually  passed down, our traditions, our values and our lores are taught through, song, dance and music, and one of the main principal elements of Hip Hop & RnB in this respect, is its orality, its emphasis on storytelling. So its not suprsing that our people would strongly identify with Hip Hop &  Rnb. There isn’t one Aboriginal kid today who doesn’t like these genres because it’s that oral communication that we’re so used to over the thousands and thousands of years.

This is why we have created the National Indigenous Hip Hop & RnB BUMP Music Awards, to ackknowledge both the pioneers of the Indigenous Hip hop & RnB movement and the up and coming new artists and groups and Indigenous People in all fields of the Music Industry who are assisting our people get into main stream and helping our people's voices and our talent be seen and heard.

The Evolution of Indigenous Hip Hop & RnB has now become a REVOLUTION!
